Staying at the Cal-Neva is a great idea for Reno visitors because it’s located in the center of downtown, where in every direction you’ll find another casino, lounge, or store whose goods or facade evokes that vintage gambling era. Reno, being a much older city than Las Vegas, has historical ties to the gold rush, the Old West, industrial mining of a century or more ago, and of course to the Vegas era of casinos. Club Cal-Neva, whose name hints that it was located in a spot where a road ran both ways for gold prospectors through 2 states, is one of the older casinos, having opened in 1962. It was a club originally, owned by wealthy gambling personages. The Virginian Tower once was part of the property.
The Cal-Neva’s hotel holds 181 rooms and has a parking garage, and 4 restaurants. The casino has slots with a 99-plus payback percentage, blackjack, keno, poker, The poker room spreads games of Seven-Card Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo and both limit and no-limit Texas Holdem in various betting ranges. There are frequent tournaments including a daily $10 tournament, monthly freerolls and events to win a seat at the World Series of Poker main event. $3 blackjack available all the time.
Voted as having the best sports book in town. It is a William Hill book.
